DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

With the devastation of Sandy, help is needed when it comes to supplies and donations.

Efforts to help the northeast region are already ramping up in the Tennessee Valley.

Local organizations are gearing up to send supplies.

There are volunteers in a Decatur warehouse packing up cleaning supplies to send north.

Volunteers with the United Methodist Disaster Response Team are packing cleaning supply buckets.

This is a year-round, operation so they actually had to switch gears from packing donated Christmas gifts to send to third world countries to packing supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Hundreds of buckets are getting stuffed with sponges, bleach, gloves and cleaners.

Coordinators said it's too early to really gage exactly what kind of supplies they'll need because of how widespread the damage of Sandy really is, but they know for sure the first thing anyone will do is start cleaning.

"This is not the southern hurricane that we are accustomed to. We're dealing with ice, snow and wind. We don't normally do that in Alabama or on the Gulf Coast, but this is something that is happening as we speak," said Disaster Response Coordinator, Ray Crump.

They will need more donations, but for now, they definitely need volunteers.
