LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County jury heard testimony in a vehicular manslaughter case.

Investigators said Richard Ray Russell was drunk the night he hit and killed James Campbell.

The jury heard testimony for the first time on Tuesday.

One of the witnesses they heard from is the trooper who responded to the scene the night of the crash.

Russell is accused of driving his car into the back of a pickup truck.

It all took place on Highway 72 near Elgin back in January of 2011.

According to reports, the impact caused the truck to leave the road and roll several times.

James Campbell, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Russell was arrested for drunk driving the night of the crash.

Court will resume Wednesday morning.
