HUNTSVILLE, AL (AP) -
J.F. Drake State Technical College in Huntsville is headed toward a bigger role as a community college.
The State Board of
Education on Thursday approved a statement of intent to change Drake
State from a technical college to a community college instructional
role. A regional accreditation group has already awarded initial
accreditation to Drake State.
School President Helen McAlpine says Drake State is transforming into a comprehensive community and technical institution.
The State Board of
Education is also recommending changing the school's name to J.F. Drake
State Community and Technical College. The name change must be approved
by the Legislature.
