DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Emergency crews responded to the scene of an accident on Highway 20 near Beltline Road in Decatur.
An 18-wheeler and an SUV crashed around 6 a.m. Thursday. Officers at the scene said a black Mercedes was trapped underneath the 18-wheeler. Fire crews extricated him from the car safely.
The driver was transported by Medflight to Huntsville Hospital with serious injuries. His name has not been released.
Officers said the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Westbound lanes of Highway 20 were backed up and eastbound lanes were shut down for about an hour.
Highway 20 was blocked down to one lane.
