HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
What officers believed was a routine traffic stop turned into a dangerous chase in Huntsville.
Officers tried to pull over a vehicle on DUI charges on Bailey Cove Road around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The driver took off and led police on a chase. The driver, 29-year-old Matthew Cheatham, led officers north on the Parkway.
Officers put down stop sticks which took of the driver's two passenger side tires.
That didn't stop the driver, however. He continued onto Drake Avenue and then Deborah Drive which ended in a dead end.
That's where police apprehended him. A search of the vehicle also revealed drugs.
Cheatham was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, DUI, attempting to elude and improper lane change.
