HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A group fighting to have something done about an alleged bullying incident at Grissom High is now taking their next step.
The GLBT Advocacy and Youth Services group are speaking with the Office of Civil Rights to find out if the incident is considered sexual harassment.
This comes after Thursday night's Huntsville City School Board meeting, where several parents spoke out in support of the instructor accused of bullying two students.
The students claim the instructor, First Sergeant Lynn Vanzandt, preached to the class about his Biblical views of homosexuality, despite their begging him to stop.
Since then, supporters of the two students have worked to get the problem fixed, but they said nothing has been done.
They recently filed a complaint, which could lead to a lawsuit.
"We never wanted to talk to an attorney or go this route. No one expected to have to do that. I hope we don't have to continue that way. We may not win a lawsuit, but that's not the point. The point is that there has to be accountability," said James Robinson with the GLBT Advocacy group.
The group expects to find out soon if the incident is sexual harassment.
If not, they will turn to a lawsuit for a violation of the First Amendment.
