HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Hundreds of homeless veterans expect to stop by the Jaycee's building in Huntsville for Operation Stand Down this weekend.
Now on its sixth year, the event intends to give homeless veterans a fresh start and renew their sense of well being.
The event will offer free health and dental care, legal advice and an opportunity to meet potential employers. Organizers will provide lodging, warm meals and free sleeping bags. Attendants can also enjoy the company of fellow veterans.
OSD board manager Harry Bakken said he expects as many as two hundred veterans to stop by over the weekend.
The event will be held at the Jaycee's Community Building at John Hunt Park near Airport Drive from 7 a.m. Friday until 12 p.m. Sunday.
Volunteers are welcome to stop by to help or to meet some of the veterans there.
