HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers program is celebrating an international award.
Officer Nathan Nickelson, the coordinator of Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers, talked about winning the Productivity Award at the Crime Stoppers International Conference in Las Vegas.
That award was the result of the largest increase in arrests and cases cleared of any program our size in the world. Since the program started a text-a-tip program earlier this year, arrests have shot up 65 percent and cases cleared are up 68 percent.
"Huntsville can be seen on a global stage as being the leader, not just one of the followers. We're the leader in getting folks arrested and getting bad people off the street," said Nickelson.
This marks the second time in the last four years that Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers has won an international award at the convention.
