Wallace State volleyball to host sophomore night on Thursday vs. Jeff Davis
HANCEVILLE – Wallace State volleyball will host Jeff Davis for sophomore night on Thursday, beginning at 5 p.m. It will mark the final regular season conference home match for five Wallace State sophomores, and a victory guarantees the program at least a share of its fifth straight ACCC regular season championship.
Wallace State, the three-time defending state champion, embarks on the final two weeks of the regular season with a 24-5 record and an 11-1 mark in Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC). The Lions split four matches in Missouri over the weekend, defeating Seward County (Kan.) Community College and Jefferson (Mo.) College before losing to New Mexico Military Institute in five sets and to Johnson County CC in four.
Kendra Jackson finished the tournament with 55 kills, Erica Baker had 43 kills and 12 digs and Kianna Delaney added 40 kills and 31 digs. Jessica Coombs accumulated 92 digs, Nicole Penny had 154 assists and 10 digs, Victoria Smith added 40 digs and EA Shaver and Bekah Myers combined for 58 kills.
On Thursday, the Lady Lions will continue to wear pink ribbons in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month. They'll host Andrew (Ga.) College in a non-conference match after playing Jeff Davis.
Wallace State's sophomores are Shaver of Athens Bible School, Coombs of West Vigo, (Ind.) High, Baker of Hazel Green, and Myers and Maegan Belcher, both of Gardendale.
The sophomores have been a part of 66 victories in less than two seasons and will seek to guide Wallace State to its fourth consecutive ACCC/Region 22 tournament championship in early November.
