DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
A sergeant with the Decatur Police Department has been charged with harassment, the department said Monday night.
A personal warrant was taken out against Sgt. Archie Letson last week for domestic violence - a more broad charge that includes harassment - in Lawrence County. When Letson discovered the warrant for his arrest, he reportedly immediately notified the department and turned himself in.
Decatur Police Sgt. John Crouch said Monday night Letson had been placed on paid administrative leave, pending and internal investigation.
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the harassment charge. Sheriff Gene Mitchell could not be reached Monday night for additional details.
