TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -

The Colbert County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting of a Colbert Heights student.

15-year-old Jesse Rainey was shot in the head during a prank, according to deputies.

Sheriff Ronnie May said a group of teenage boys went to a home on Jones Road to spend the night after a football game. Some of the boys decided to play a prank.

Around 3:30 a.m., Rainey was shot in the head.

The teens drove Rainey to a nearby store parking lot to meet ambulances. He was taken to Helen Keller and then transferred to the UAB Hospital where he is listed critical condition.

Investigators recovered several guns from the home. They said drugs and alcohol did not play a part in the incident.

Officials said no adults were present at the time of the shooting.

No charges have been filed.
