TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -
Authorities in the Shoals are working around the clock trying to solve the murder of an elderly man who was beaten and left for dead inside his Tuscumbia home.
Police said they are asking for assistance from federal agents.
Police Chief Tony Logan said they are working with the FBI's Criminal Science Unit to see what considerations they have on profiling this case to help push along this investigation.
Friends found 88-year-old Elbert Davis fighting for his life inside his home on August 28th.
Davis died at the hospital the next day.
Police said someone forced their way into the home through the back door.
Investigators believe Davis and the intruder got into some sort of altercation, which ultimately led to his death.
It is unclear exactly what Davis's attacker was after.
Police said they will not rest until his killer is arrested.
"This is a case that you think about when you get up in the morning and when you go to bed at night, and I can't imagine the hurt and anguish the family still feels because of what's going on with Elbert," said Logan.
If you have any information on Davis's death or remember seeing anything suspicious in the Tuscumbia area the night he died, call the Tuscumbia Police Department immediately.
