MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Bullying is a nationwide problem that's getting a lot of attention. Some cases are even coming from student's right here in the Valley.
More people are speaking out and standing up against bullies to put a stop to it.
Child psychologist Dr. Kenneth Sullivan said he's seen more kids who have been bullied than he'd like to.
"There probably has been bullying in schools since forever," Sullivan said. "But people now are starting to recognize that it's time to do more to put a stop to it."
Sullivan said a solution isn't impossible; it just takes the right steps.
"Cultivating a culture within the schools that approaches bullying like it is a serious problem," he said. "The ones doing the bullying need help need help and then to structure a process where they get the help. Sometimes it takes intervening with the parents and getting them to do more for those kids that are doing the bullying. The idea that this will not be tolerated as opposed to ah kid's do that can make a big difference," he said.
