HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Verizon Call Center marked its 5th anniversary in Huntsville Thursday.

A celebration took place at the customer service center.

Since the Center opened in Huntsville in 2007, it has brought in more than 1200 jobs to the area.

Mayor Tommy Battle said the Center has made an economic impact on North Alabama and also helped with recruiting other companies.

"We can say we have a call center here that has an average education level of two years in college per employee. That tells an employer looking at Huntsville, Alabama that there is a very highly skilled population out here and a highly skilled workforce," said Battle.

As part of the celebration, Verizon donated $500 to Crisis Services of North Alabama.
