TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

The VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa has been given the all-clear after a suspicious package was reported at the hospital.

A man left a device inside a black plastic bag at the front desk of Building 135 around 2:20 p.m., according to Sgt. Andy Norris with the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Department.

Investigators scanned the bag and say there is some sort of device inside, but they did not determine yet whether it is explosive or not. Sgt. Norris says the device has been removed from the property. The sheriff's office bomb squad will safely detonate it at a quarry, he said.

The hospital was partially evacuated while police, the FBI and the bomb squad investigated. An all-clear was given around 4:30 p.m. over the hospital's loud speaker system.

The person who dropped off the suspicious package remains in custody of the hospital's security staff, but has not yet been charged. The FBI may determine whether or not the man will be charged in the case.
