HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
If someone calls claiming to be a representative of Microsoft, hang up.
The Better Business Bureau said they've received dozens of complaints from people about this scam.
They said someone claiming to be with Microsoft told them there was a problem with their computer and they need to turn it on so they can fix it.
The BBB said the scammer is just trying to download a virus onto the computer so they can gain access to personal information.
"So if you are doing banking on your computer or have personal documents of that type of thing, this virus or malware or whatever gets downloaded, gives somebody else access to your computer," said Belinda McCormick with the BBB of North Alabama.
McCormick said Microsoft won't call you to help fix your computer.
If you believe you're a victim, you should run an anti-malware and anti-virus program.
Also contact your financial institution if you provided your bank account information.
