BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- University of North Alabama junior quarterback Chris Alexander has been selected Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping lead the Lions to an impressive 41-0 win over Shorter on Homecoming.
Alexander, a junior from Lake Butler, Fla., completed nine-of-10 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, while also running for another TD on one of his five carries. He scored the game's first touchdown on a four-yard run at 13:23 of the second quarter, then fired a 33-yard TD strike to Melvin Harris just before the half to give UNA a 21-0 lead at intermission.
The award is the first GSC Player of the Week award for Alexander, who has helped lead UNA to a 4-1 start and a 2-0 record in GSC play.
North Alabama travels to Kingsville, Texas, to take on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
