BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

The Mayor of Boaz outlined a plan Monday for a multimillion dollar recreational center he wants for the city.

He spoke to the public at Snead State Community College.

The plan has been a dream of the mayor's for the last five years. Now, the city has the option to purchase the property.

Effective today, the city has the option to purchase just over 23 acres of land where the outlet center is located.

Mayor Tim Walker is trying to sell the idea to the public. He said the center will revitalize the area.

The new facility would include an aquatics center, gym and fitness center as well as banquet facilities capable of hosting statewide tournaments.

Walker feels obtaining such a center would be a game changer for Boaz.

"I think it does change the game in Boaz as far as our future and making our community more attractive to, not only the people that live here but people outside to come here and shop and spend their money," said Walker.

Walker said the center would only help create more businesses around the center.
