TANNER, AL (WAFF) -

Limestone County Sheriff's Deputies continue to investigate an early morning shooting.

It happened just after 3 a.m. Saturday on Fennell Road near the Tanner community.

The Limestone County Sheriff said 26-year-old Brandon Hydrick and his brother were driving around in the area and apparently got lost.  They had been at a bonfire with their family and were unfamiliar with the area.

Sheriff Mike Blakely said 52-year-old Joel Moyers was awake inside his home on the corner of Fennell Road and Fennell Lane.

Moyers told deputies he saw the truck driving around and became suspicious. Deputies said Moyers  went outside with his AK-47 rifle, shined a light on the vehicle and tried to get it to stop.

However, he told deputies the vehicle sped past, so he fired a shot into the air.

Sheriff Blakely said the bullet however, struck the tailgate of the truck, entered the cab, and hit Hydrick in the back, killing him.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Moyers inside his house and the truck crashed into a tree about a half mile down the road.

Moyers was booked in the the Limestone County jail and is awaiting a bond hearing.
