JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A safe was found under a bridge in Jackson County.

Investigators are trying to figure out how it got there and who and why it was put there.

Sheriff Chuck Phillips said it appears to be a small home or office type safe and may have been out in the elements for the last few weeks.

The safe was found under a bridge off County Road 63 just over the county line coming from the town of Grant.

Phillips said a resident located the safe while under the bridge where there is a creek and reported it to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff said nothing was found in the safe.

He's unsure if it was stolen or why it would be out there.

If anyone has any information about the safe, contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Department.
