Cyber attack could be to blame for bank website problems

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A cyber attack could be to blame for problems with a couple of major bank websites.

US Bank and PNC reported problems with their websites on Wednesday.

That comes after a financial security group warned about possible cyber attacks.

According to a PNC spokesperson, the only real problem that customers had was accessing the bank's website on the first try.

The spokesperson said that they are aware of a similar threat possibly planned for today.

Earlier in the week, customers of JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America reported similar problems, but both company's stopped short of saying the problem was a result of a cyber attack.

Senator Joe Lieberman, I-Conn, has come out and said he believes Iran is behind the cyber attacks.

One source has suggested that the attacks could be in response to the US sanctions on Iranian banks.

Iran has denied any involvement in the attacks.

These attacks are described as "significant and ongoing" and US officials say they are continuing to look into the problem.
