JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Numerous marijuana plants were confiscated in two areas of Jackson County.
It happened Monday in the communities of Flat Rock and Hogjaw Valley.
Drug agents said it's almost the close of harvest for the illegal plants and said the plants were a good find this late in the year.
Just over 80 plants were recovered in Jackson County on Monday.
Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen said tips led to the seizure of 68 plants approximately three to three and a half feet off County Road 814 in the Flat Rock community. Another 14 plants from three to five feet were discovered in the Hogjaw Valley community.
Despite their small size, the plants had been picked to promote budding on the plants.
Harnen said finding pot plants in the field is hard work but added they're promptly disposed of when they're found.
"Finding them is just a matter of knowing where they are and pounding the bush, really, looking for them, looking where they are growing," he said. "If we find them, we'll pull them out of the ground if they're small enough. Sometimes you have to use machetes to cut them down and then we'll take them and we'll burn them."
Harnen said no arrests have been made at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.
