BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

Voters in the town of Boaz may soon get an opportunity to approve alcohol sales in their town.

It's the last remaining city in Marshall County that is still dry.

This vote has been taken before, but it was voted down by a very small margin two years ago.

Organizers said they've waited their time and are ready to try again.

More than 600 registered voters in Boaz have signed a petition for a referendum on the issue.

This week, the city certified the names and calculated that enough signatures were valid for such a referendum to be held.

Proponents said it would keep revenue from going to adjacent cities.

Those against said it brings on additional problems for a city.

One local business man recently renovated portions of an area around the former outlet mall.

He believes there are businesses, like restaurants, which are not coming to Boaz because it's still dry.

The Boaz City Council is expected to vote for a referendum when they meet Monday night.

If approved, that referendum may be held during the November general election.
