MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Drug agents searched 1000 acres of property at 985 Bluff City Road in Somerville after numerous complaints of drug activity.
When agents arrived on the scene, they made contact with the owner, 40-year-old Robert Keahey who was armed with a handgun and had meth on him.
Investigators searched the property and found an active meth lab, several guns, a stolen vehicle and a grenade.
Keahey was arrested and charged with manufacturing of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property. Further charges are pending for possession of a military explosive device. His bond was set at $600,300.
David Reynolds, 32, Brian Partain, 40, and James Watson, 62, were also arrested at the scene.
Watson was a convicted sex offender out of Washington and he was charged with failing to register. His bond was set at $2,500.
Partain and Reynolds were charged with loitering in a drug house. Their bond was set at $300 each.
The ATF and the FBI were also involved.
Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin said they are searching for evidence over about a thousand acres, looking for drugs and stolen property.
"Well, this is just a mess. That's the best way I can put it. It's just a mess," Franklin said.
Franklin has eyes in the air, wheels on the ground, and divers checking the water, looking for a marijuana grow and stolen car parts.
"We had gotten some information that they were kind of doing a chop shop kind of thing and that some of the parts that could be identifiable had been thrown in the pond," she said.
Authorities haven't found that evidence, but they have found a whole lot more on the property.
Franklin said they moved in Wednesday after gathering information for months about what was going on at the house off of Bluff City Road.
"Meth cooks and had suspicions they may be stolen property dealers, weapons dealers," she said.
The house belongs to 40-year-old Keahey. When drug task force agents found him, he was well armed.
"He did have a machete with him and a .22 long gun," said Franklin. "We were able to locate a live hand grenade inside the suspect's vehicle along with a methamphetamine lab."
In the woods, authorities found a stolen car.
The sheriff said they will be working this through the weekend, and more arrests are likely.
Keahey was just released from prison. He did not resist arrest.
