BPD: Accusations against man taking pictures of children a misunderstanding

BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

Some students in Boaz went to police saying a strange man was taking pictures of them.

Now, it seems as though the whole thing was a big misunderstanding.

The man was taking pictures of them to use as evidence in case they discovered damage in the school.

Boaz Police said they received a call last Friday from the man the children said confronted them.

Chief Terry Davis said the man was there to take pictures of the exterior of the building that had been damaged.

He went inside when he saw a back door open, and that's where he discovered the children.

Davis said the man was concerned the children were there to vandalize the place so he took their pictures.

While the children said he took the iPod from one of their backpacks, the man claims he left it as they ran from the building where they were not supposed to be.

"We just want to let people know there's not and there wasn't any kind of intent to do anything towards the children or anything like that, so we're glad we got that cleared up," said Davis.

Davis said the man called and let them know he did have the iPod and returned it to police.
