BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -
A Marshall County man left his dog locked in a car for several hours on Sunday in the town of Boaz.
22-year-old Robert Matthews Elledge was charged with animal cruelty.
Boaz Police responded to 80 Vernon Homes concerning a dog that had been in a Dodge truck for more than five hours.
When police arrived, they found the bulldog mix in the truck with no food, water, and temperatures in the 80s.
When they made contact with the owner, police said he was evidently worried about his truck.
"He had put it in there to keep someone from stealing it. Evidently, he had taken a nap and forgotten about it," said Boaz Police Chief Terry Davis.
For safety, the dog was taken to a local animal clinic.
Elledge was released on a $500 bond.
