LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Friday in Limestone County, the Be Ready Program provided education and a chance for people to meet the organizations that help storm victims recover.
The attention on the need to be prepared before a storm comes and what to do after it hits certainly has grown after what happened in April of 2011.
The Limestone County Volunteers Active in Disaster group (VOAD) sponsored the Be Ready event, aimed to give people information about how to be ready for disaster.
"We need to come together to work together to help people who are in need," said Kyle Jeffreys.
Jeffreys is chairperson for VOAD and the state's FEMA coordinator for the Southern Baptist Association. The groups aided a major volunteer effort after the April 27th storms.
This county and this state came together like never before, and they worked and helped people who lost their homes and some lost their family members. They came together praying for them and working for them.
Outside of learning how to be more prepared for a storm, people had the chance to meet emergency workers, firefighters, police officers, deputies - the people who respond when a storm hits.
Be Ready Day was held now because September is Disaster Preparedness Month.
