GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Guntersville lawyer pleaded guilty Wednesday after being accused of cutting trees from city property.

George Barnett was cited earlier this year after he was having land cleared for a development that crossed over the line into the city's property.

Some residents were upset back in March over plans for the proposed development in a historic portion of town. Residents felt the construction of several homes on a small downtown street would add much more traffic.

While they were upset over the landscape changes, it was later determined work went beyond the property line.

After accepting a plea deal, Barnett was fined $1,500 and $750 for hauling six loads of debris.

As part of the plea deal, Barnett entered into an agreement with the city to maintain the portion of city property that was cut for a 99-year period.
