Hazel Green man to undergo mental evaluation after standoff

A local man will undergo a mental evaluation after a standoff with police Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at a home on Brookview Drive.

The Madison County Sheriff's Department responded after receiving a call about a man threatening suicide.

Authorities said the man refused to come out of the house.  As a precaution, authorities secured the area to keep residents safe.

After about an hour, deputies entered the home and took him into custody.

The man was immediately taken to Huntsville Hospital.

"At this time our main concern is his personal well being. He has not committed a crime that deserves charges at this time," said Sgt. Brian Chaffin.

Investigators said the man was the only person in the house.

They're trying to determine if he had a weapon.
