DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
Decatur Police and firefighters held their September 11th memorial service Tuesday morning.
They came together outside of City Hall to remember the victims.
Flags at City Hall, the police and fire training center and fire stations throughout the city were lowered to half staff.
Police Chief Ed Taylor said it's important to honor those who died that day and those who have defended our country.
"We think it's very appropriate that the City of Decatur and the citizens take just a moment to commemorate those sacrifices and remember what happened to us and, together, to make sure it never happens again," said Taylor.
On-duty police were allowed to participate in the memorial at the fire stations in their patrol areas.
