Election campaigns are now in full swing but so are potential scammers.
The Better Business Bureau wants voters to be aware of suspicious robo-calls, e-mails and surveys as election season heats up.
The BBB said scams could come in a variety of forms.
There have been reports of fake fundraising calls or a call that says voters will win a free prize if they fill out a political survey. The BBB said don't fall for these tricks.
They also said potential scammers will take advantage of certain topics like health care and job creation during the presidential race and will want voters to comment on them in political surveys in exchange for a free cruise.
The caller might ask to provide a credit card number to cover "port fees" and taxes but the BBB warns this is likely a scam.
Other voters reported calls claiming that President Barack Obama will pay a utility bill in exchange for your bank routing number. The BBB said do not believe it.
Some scammers may even claim to check voter eligibility right before the election and request your social security number.
"They may make it sound like you've got to do this or you're not able to vote. They may put that sense of urgency in there. But that may not be the case.
Mason said she is not aware of a system in the north Alabama area that will request this.
The BBB also said if voters want to donate to a political campaign, they should contact the candidate's office themselves and not wait for an unsolicited call to reach them first.
