No. 6/7 Auburn Tied For Fourth

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Junior Diana Fernandez and sophomore Victoria Trapani both carded a 2-under-par 70s for the day to help the No. 6/7 Auburn women's golf team remain at even-par 576 after the second round of the Cougar Classic on Monday. The Tigers are tied for fourth heading into Tuesday's final round.

 

"It was great seeing Victoria and Diana step up for us today," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "I thought we left a few strokes out there as a team, but we are still in this and need to come out tomorrow and finish this thing up right."

 

The Cougar Class is a 54-hole stroke play tournament hosted by the College of Charleston and held at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. The par 72 course is playing at 6,219 yards for the tournament which features 24 teams, 13 of which are ranked in the top 25.

 

Junior Marta Sanz remains the team leader in a tie for fifth individually at 4-under-par. She carded a 1-over 73 Monday to put her at 2-under 140 heading into the final round.

 

Trapani is tied for 14th with a 1-under 143, following her second-round 70. She is three strokes ahead of senior Carlie Yadloczky, who is tied for 35th after rounds of 71-75—146.

 

Fernandez moved up 46 places in the standings to a tie for 42nd after her 2-under 70. She enters the final round at 3-over 147 for the tournament. Sophomore Nicole Quinn rounds out the squad in a tie for 114th after rounds of 80-77—157.

 

Florida holds the tournament lead after carding a 9-under-par 279 for the second round, bringing the team to 11-under for the tournament. Southern California follows in second place at 2-under 568, and Vanderbilt is in third with a 2-under 574. Auburn and Virginia are tied for fourth with even-par 576s.

 

Florida's Camilla Hedberg has the individual lead with a 9-under 135, followed by teammate Isabelle Lendl with a 7-under 137. A two-way tie for third is held between Duke's Lindy Duncan and Southern California's Sophia Popov with a 5-under 139s. Auburn's Marta Sanz is part of a five-way tie for fifth at 4-under 140 along with Vanderbilt's Irina Gabasa, Central Florida's Carolin Pinegger, Georgia's Manuela Carbajo Re and Furman's Laura Wearn.
