Tennessee Valley Republican club meets to discuss amendment

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

The Tennessee Valley Republican Club held a forum in Madison Saturday.

Republican gathered to discuss a proposed constitutional amendment.

Amendment One would take more than $400 million out of the state's oil and gas trust fund over three years to help pay for state services.

Governor Bentley supports the measure, but two fellow republicans, House member Phil Williams and State Board of Education member Mary Scott Hunter, said they do not support it.

"Good points made by everybody. It's a tough topic. Our state is in a real bind. And there's going to have to be some hard decisions made either at that ballot box or later with the legislature," said Ralph Weber, President of the TVRC.

Williams said he's concerned about earmarks that would come with the amendment.

Voters will go to the ballots to decide on September 18.
