GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
A woman charged with stealing more than $16,000 worth of jewelry from her employer was set to go to trial on Wednesday in Guntersville, but she took a plea deal instead.
Stacey Jane Webb was a housekeeper.
Webb pleaded guilty Wednesday afternoon to second degree theft of property.
The judge suspended her 18-month jail sentence and ordered her to two years probation. She was ordered to register with the state probation office after the hearing.
Guntersville Police said she was working for a woman in the Spring Creek subdivision of Guntersville when the homeowner discovered in July 2010 that she had jewelry missing.
A police investigation discovered some of the $16,000 worth of jewelry at a Huntsville jewelry store and later determined jewelry had been taken to other locations.
The investigation revealed it was Webb, the housekeeper, who stole the jewelry, and she was charged a few weeks later.
The court must now determine what amount of restitution is to be paid the victims.
A hearing for that is scheduled for November 19.
