The 46th Annual Fiddlers Convention is coming to Athens.
Athens State University will host the event on the steps of Founders Hall as well as other locations across campus.
A total of $11,870 in prize money will be awarded for the musical competition.
Musicians will compete in 18 different categories including fiddle, guitar, harmonica, banjo and a number of other categories.
The festival will begin October 5 and end October 6 with the naming of the "Fiddle Champion."
Gates will open at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $8 for Friday, $10 for Saturday and $15 for both days. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free with a parent. Advance tickets are available from the Athens State Business Office located in Founders Hall.
All proceeds will go to fund student scholarships and university projects.
