MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The severe weather that hit the Tennessee Valley Sunday spared most people for serious damage.

However, one Madison County man said Sunday's storms cost him his home.

"The water just can't get through. It's like a funnel," said Brian Waters.

Waters was hit hard by Sunday's storm.

As the rain fell, the water rose inside his home on Old Railroad Bed Road.

The watermark is clearly visible outside - 18 to 24 inches off the ground in some spots - and this isn't the first time this has happened.

"April 27th of last year, the F5 came thru and dumped 10 inches of water that day. The house flooded and we lost about half of everything, but I was still grateful to have a place to stay compared to half a mile down the road," said Waters.

FEMA and local volunteers helped Waters repair the home last year, and he said he worked with county commissioners and engineers to redesign his culvert to prevent future flooding. He said the work was funded and approved but never actually happened.

Now, his plans to sell his home are sunk.

"Something has got to be done about this. I mean, it not only affects me, it affects my neighbors over here. It affects all my neighbors right behind me," he said.
