FORT PAYNE, AL (WAFF) -
A deer smashed through the windshield of a Fort Payne police officer's patrol car.
The accident happened around 10 Sunday night.
Fort Payne Police said the officer was on routine patrol in the 2100 block of South Gault Avenue when a deer jumped over the hood of the vehicle and smashed into the officer's windshield.
They said the officer then made a call to dispatch that he had struck the animal.
Medics and other officers then responded to the scene.
The officer was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released early Monday morning.
Police said the deer died as a result of its injuries.
