PLAQUEMINES PARISH, LA (WAFF) -

The search and rescue mission continues in southern Louisiana, after dozens were trapped in, or on their homes by floodwaters.

Hundreds were ordered to evacuate Plaquemines Parish Monday, but some chose not to leave.

Now the National Guard and local law enforcement are rescuing entire families after water surged over an 18-mile levee system and put the area under water.

Dozens have been rescued, and there may be more stranded.

At least 800 homes have suffered significant water damage.
