Shoals home-invasion beating upgraded to capital murder

An elderly man beaten in a home invasion Tuesday evening has died.

Police said 88-year-old Elbert Davis Jr. lived alone and was found by acquaintances around 7 p.m. Tuesday inside his home.

It appears someone forced entry into the house through the back door. Davis was found in the basement of the home on N High Street across from Deshler Middle School.

Davis was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition. He died at the hospital of his injuries.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation will be assisting Tuscumbia Police in the investigation. It is now a capital murder case.

Anyone with information about this crime should call local authorities.
