Decatur man accused of check forgery

Decatur Police arrested a man after they said he tried to use a forged check at a local business.

Police responded to a business on 6th Avenue Saturday. The suspect, who identified himself as Javier Ramirez, was still at the business.

The caller told police the man had cashed several checks over the past three weeks. On August 24, he discovered the checks were forged and called police when the man came in again.

When officers interviewed the suspect, they discovered he was actually Alex Lopez.

Lopez was arrested and charged with possession of a forged instrument and giving false identity to law enforcement. His bond was set at $3,000.
