ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -
The jury will begin deliberating Wednesday in a limestone county murder case. Both the prosecution and the defense have rested their cases.
Lisa Pate, 43, is accused of killing James Miller, 59. Miller was found shot to death at his Athens home in November 2009. Investigators said the shooting was the result of an argument.
Prosecutors called several investigators to the stand, including Floyd Johnson, who has become the chief of police since that time. Authorities said Pate and miller had a relationship. Both were married, but not to each other, when police said Miller tried to break it off with Pate. They said Pate and the victim got into an argument and she shot and killed him. Her attorneys argued she was scared of Miller and shot him in self defense.
The trial has moved swiftly. Jury selection began Monday, then the prosecution began, and by 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, they had wrapped up their case. The defense began after lunch and finished before 3 p.m.
Closing arguments happen Wednesday morning, then the judge will give the case to the jury.
