Kishon Green pleads guilty to capital murder

Kishon Green Kishon Green
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Kishon Green pleaded guilty Friday to the murder of his 10-year-old son Antwan and his son's half brother Frederick Thomas. He also pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

Green murdered Antwan and Frederick in 2008. He also stabbed and beat his girlfriend, Tiffany Burrell, with a baseball bat.

Judge James Smith said it was one of the most horrific crimes in the history of Madison County.

Smith deemed Green mentally retarded in June, which made him ineligible for the death penalty. Green faces a maximum penalty of life in prison without parole.

Reports stated that the evidence for his mental retardation was "not only sufficient, it is overwhelming."

Green was sentenced to life without parole for the attempted murder as part of the plea agreement. Even though he is pleading guilty to capital murder, Alabama law requires a jury to hear the evidence before his plea will be accepted by the court.

That jury will be seated at 9:45 a.m. Monday.
