HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -
Police say a man who robbed a bank in Mountain Brook and fled the scene on his 10-speed bike was captured around 30 minutes later in Birmingham.
Around 10:10 a.m., the Regions Bank in Office Park on Highway 280 was robbed by a white male who fled on his bicycle, Mountain Brook Police Chief Ted Cook said. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and traveled uphill in the west section of Office Park toward Homewood, Cook said.
Chief Cook says numerous tips from various sources helped Mountain Brook and Homewood police officers track down the suspect.
Homewood police stopped the suspect on Richard Arrington Blvd. at Warwick Drive near Vulcan Park. He was taken into custody around 10:40 a.m.
This is the second bank robbery in two days that Homewood police have investigated. Wednesday afternoon, the Wells Fargo in Homewood was robbed. There were no injuries reported in the robbery. The suspect in that case is described as a white male in his 30s who may have driven a black 2012 VW Jetta.
