Huntsville Carmike Cinemas swept after nation-wide threat

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Police and a bomb tech swept the Carmike Cinemas off Old Monrovia Rd.

The Carmike Cinemas off of Old Monrovia Road called police in as a precaution after multiple threats across the country.

No explosive devices were found at the Huntsville location, and the scene was cleared before noon.

Police also checked theatres in Decatur and Florence.

At least two dozen movie theaters in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia had activity from emergency responders starting around 11:30 a.m. ET.

According to WSFA, police said the threat originated at the corporate office, which is located in nearby Columbus, GA.

There have been no reports of explosive devices found.

WAFF does not typically report bomb threats, but made an exception for public interest.
