DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
There were eight 911 calls Monday night from people who live in Summer Place Apartments in Decatur.
State laws relating to confidentiality of 911 calls recordings prevent audio of the calls from being released, but officials did release transcripts of the calls.
The phone calls were from Summer Place Apartment residents begging law enforcement to come to 304 Courtney Drive in Decatur Monday night.
"Please hurry, please hurry," one caller said. "We need that officer back up to this apartment. That man is back."
Police said they received several calls earlier Monday night about a man threatening his girlfriend and neighbors.
Officers later identified the man as Mister Bobby Lowe.
When officers first arrived on scene, they didn't see Lowe. They said he came back an hour later.
"Bobby is back," another caller said. "The police were just here. A warrant has been put out for his arrest. The police just left and he just showed up. He jumped the fence again and showed back up. He had busted the window out or jumped out the window and left."
A different caller said that when Lowe came back, he was "yelling at everyone."
Dispatchers assured every caller the police were on their way.
Police said when they arrived at the complex, Lowe approached an officer who had a rifle. They fought over the rifle, the officer pulled out a handgun, and shot Lowe twice, killing him.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is now investigating this incident, which is standard procedure when an officer shoots someone. The officer is on restrictive duty status while the investigation is conducted.
