CULLMAN, AL (AP) -
An Alabama mayoral candidate says she isn't
worried that an appearance on the Jerry Springer show a decade ago will
hurt her campaign.
Verna Jackson Hammons is
running for mayor in Cullman. Ten years ago, she went on Springer's
syndicated TV show with her lover and his wife and got into a fight with
the woman.
Hammons says she was with
the man about a year before they split up, and then she moved to
Cullman. She now runs a barber and automobile detailing shop in the
north Alabama city.
Hammons says she's in the
four-person mayoral race to win. She says she's running because she
wants to help the people of Cullman.
