HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
UA Huntsville eminent scholar and professor, Dr. Michael Griffin, is leaving the university for a position at Schafer Corporation.
Griffin has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Schafer Corp., a company that provides services and products to the defense industry.
Griffin turned in his resignation Monday and will leave the 25th. He will leave UAH, but not the Rocket City. He'll set up his office in Research Park at Schafer's Huntsville location.
Hired by Dr. David Williams, Griffin has been at UAH for three and a half years. He said he believes he will enjoy the challenges of being chairman and CEO of a company more than continuing to pursue an academic life.
"We congratulate Mike on his appointment as Chairman and CEO of Schafer Corporation," said UAH spokesman Ray Garner. "This is a wonderful career opportunity for him, and we are pleased that he will remain a part of the Huntsville community. We extend our best wishes to Mike for a prosperous future."
