UNA Lions prepare for Scrimmage Monday

The University of North Alabama football team had a poor day Sunday, according to head coach Bobby Wallace, but the Lions look to step it up Monday when they hold their first full-speed scrimmage.

"I thought physically we had a good day but mentally it was a poor day," Wallace said. "We had the longest break between practices that we've had so far and we made too many mental mistakes - and they were by our older guys. We have got to make better decisions."

Wallace said Monday's scrimmage will be a key step for the UNA players and coaches.

"We didn't scrimmage much in the spring and we have so many new kids that we need to look at, scrimmaging is the only way to find out who is a football player," Wallace said. "It scares me to death to scrimmage a lot but you have to do it. "

Wallace said the learning curve is much tougher for the offense right now, with so many freshmen and newcomers among the two-deep, and he said he expects that to show in the scrimmage.

"The defense is doing a good job taking on the mental part of what we're trying to do," Wallace said. "Offensively we have to make better decisions."

The Lions will scrimmage in full pads for the first time during their morning session Monday.
