MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Republican candidates running for city offices in Madison held a forum Saturday morning.

Ten city council candidates and the two men running for mayor told the crowd at the Best Western on Madison Avenue about their campaign platforms. Then they took questions from residents. Don palmer and Troy Trulock are competing for the mayor's office. Each says their experience would help Madison's economic growth if elected.

"When we retired from the military, I was managing a multi-billion dollar program. Not many people in Madison or in Huntsville manage a multi-billion dollar program. I'm on multiple boards of directors and executive committees. I believe I have the business background and the business sense," Trulock said.

"What I bring to the job is an executive background. A significant background in turning things around to profitability. We know Madison has issues with money. We've seen that with the schools, certainly the roads, parks and recreation. And I have the background that can make a difference in moving Madison forward." Palmer said.

The Tennessee Valley Republican Club organized the forum.

Madison's municipal election day is on August 28.
