HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The city of Huntsville's ADS Environmental Services will be conducting sewer smoke testing in the upcoming weeks.
Sewer smoke testing is a diagnostic that blows smoke into a portion of the sanitary sewer system. The smoke exits from defects in the system which is then flagged, photographed and documented.
The testing is part of a contract with the City of Huntsville Water Pollution Control Department.
The testing will be in an area of South Huntsville.
Smoke may enter some residents' homes through defective pipes. If smoke does enter, it will dissipate quickly. Door hangers will be distributed to residents when the testing is set to take place and will include helpful information.
